Default laptop screen shrinkage

I have an older Dell Latitude C800. Sometimes for no real reason, if close it up while it is on, when I open it back up the picture has shrunk. The resolution settings are the same, but the desktop only takes up about 75% of the screen. WTF? I have been using system restore to fix it, but that gets old fast. What else can I do here?

have you tried logging off, then back on? or switching the screen size while it's like that? it might be a glitch...

Update your chipset and/or onboard video drivers.

Logging off and back on doesn't work. Restart doesn't work either. It's weird. This last time I did a hard shutdown so it wouldn't save any settings and presto next time I power on it's fine. I just wish I could find why it does this. I remember seeing this same problem somewhere on TF but I can't seem to find it.

When I see this it's generally a driver thing. Check the settings your video and there should be a "Displays" tab. Make sure the "Scale image to Panel Size" is checked. DO you use nvidia, ati, intel, what graphics?
I think on some Dells this is in a bios setting if that helps.
