Default Hard disk trouble

Today I received a refurbished Maxtor 160GB PATA. I RMA'd my first disk, but this new one still doesn't work, so I think my external enclosure is broken.
I don't have time to test it internally, but even if it works, I want it to be external because I don't have an external disk at the moment.

Will do some testing later on...

Seagate shipped the disk in a huge box:

Last week, I removed a noisy 40GB hard disk from my MMX and replaced it with a Hitachi 80GB. Everything went smooth. I had the CPU fan disabled at the time because it was noisy as well. I think it is too hot, so I connected it to 5v instead of 12v. I can barely hear it. The downside is that it doesn't start spinning by itself, so everytime I completely power off the computer I have to open the case and give the fan a little push, lol.

the refurbished drive could be faulty - don't rule that out. I've had a replacement scsi drive from maxtor that was faulty.

Maybe I'll have time to test it next week. If it works onboard I will buy a new external enclosure.

The problem is the fact that it's Maxtor.

Kidding of course, although I tend to lean towards Seagate and Western Digital.
