Default Graphics Card Or Monitor Problem?

I have a gateway 510 xl computer with an Nvidia geforce fx 5200 graphics card. My monitor is a 18 inch flat panel display. (FPD1830) As long as I leave the computer on everything works fine. When I turn the computer on the display fickers really bad while the computer is booting up. The screen may also go totally black. I've noticed that after it goes black If I turn the monitor off and then back on the display will come on, but flickers really bad again. Eventually after playing with it I seem to get it to work. Is it the graphics card or the monitor? I'm concerned I don't know when it won't come back on again. I have diagnostic software on my computer. I also went to PC pitstop both say everything is working correctly. I'm stumped.
Any help is appreciated

The problem should be your graphics card.

Can you further describe "Eventually after playing with it I seem to get it to work.". What is it your are playing with?? The cables, the monitor, something inside the computer?

have you made sure all the cables are securely connected??
