Default External hard drive space problems

I did a search and couldnt find anything on this and I think this would be the right section for it, so...

I bought a external hard drive around December, a maxtor 200gb. I mostly have music and some games on it and I have 132gb of free space left. I have a few movies ( I used shrink, and decrypter to get them) on the internal that I would like to move to the external. Whenever I try and move the movies to the external it says that there is not enough space and that I should delete some files to make space. This isnt a big deal to me, just thought Id free up some space on the internal in the meantime. If you need anyother information on my computer just let me know.
So my question is, is there anyway to move the (iso? Not sure about all the terminology) file to an external hard drive?

Also, how often should the external be shut off?

Thanks for the help.
