im looking on buying a WD 1tb my book home edition and was wandering if a USB 2.0 connection is good enough to play dvds from the hard drive without problems such as;
- frame rates dropping
- skipping

You should be fine. I do it all the time with a USB interface.

Your only remote concern would be if you are running a lot of USB devices off of the same USB port. Each port has a maximum transfer rate of 480MB/s which is more than enough, but if you were running a USB hub off of that port and had many devices sharing it, the max speeds get dropped drastically for each new device added.

Still, streaming video files should only need a sustained transfer rate of like 8MB/s so you will be fine. Just wanted to cover all the grounds.
