I had issues like this, XP Pro SP2 Genuine, and I just did the Microsloth HotFix and then do the affinity everytime I play, NFS:MW GTA:SA and Sim City etc etc. Half Life 2 doesn't seem to suffer, nor Sims 2. I also use the 4200+ X2.

Random eh.
