Default Dropped External Harddrive

I have a 1TB external harddrive connecting via eSata
I dropped it about 3ft from my desk
It was on

My computer cant detect it anymore
I was wondering if its permanently broken
Or if I wait like a day or two, it will be back

Or are there any tricks to get it back and working?

Thanks!

pull it from the enclosure and hook it up directly to your computer.

before you do give the hd removed from the enclosure is a VERY light shake to see if you hear any metal pieces rattling inside. If so you are most likely screwed.

So its most likely that the case enclosure is broken compared to just the hard drive? IS that what hooking it up directly the computer accomplish?

Until you shake the drive... who knows... I'm not an expert, but i'd lean towards drive itself.... moving parts vs non moving parts.

I've had this happen several times, with some being just adapters broken/pulled away, and others with hard drives completely failing. It's really a toss up on external drives, because they include more parts than just a bare internal hard drive.

We are hoping it is only the enclosure. No way to tell until we actually test the hard drive itself.
