Lightbulb Dead P4

Hi,

I decided to take out an old P4 I had lying around and to my disappointment, the screen did not boot. I have tried multiple RAM sticks in each slots ( all from working computers ) only have the one 2.4 CPU to test. I know that the monitor port on the motherboard is broken so I'm using a FX5700LE ( which works on another computer ).

P4P800-VM - Motherboard

This is a stupid question but do I need HDD to get into Bios, or at least check to see if it works?

If anyone knows of this problem or has any idea how to fix it, help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Sam

Hello,

You shouldnt need a hard drive hooked up. It should get past the BIOS screen to say invalid system disk error. At least i think. Been a while since i tried to boot without a drive.

If not you would try to boot and get a beep code error.

Cheers,
Mak

Hi,

Turned it on but got no beep code - considering the age I am 99% sure that the battery is dead if that is of any relevance.

Thanks, Sam

It should still boot with no battery, it just won't be able to save any changes you've made in the BIOS after powering off.

Make sure the internal speaker is plugged in and hooked up properly also.
