Hi I have a hp cd writer. I know that it is getting power because I can open it and put in a cd. It then does a fast blink about 5 times and then nothing. What could be the problem. Frog

Do you have the correct jumpers on it? If its the only device on a IDE cable, than it should be set as master, if its sharing the cable with say, a hard disk or another optical drive, than it should be set at slave.

Ok I checked it is set to slave it shares . This cd drive used to work then it just stopped. It was about the same time as my java went away and I am still messing with that. Could it be a registry problem?
