Default cd burner booting

I know a little bit about hardware.

I have an old cd burner that I wanted to plug into my Secondary IDE controller just to have another drive in case I wanted to copy a cd and such.

I connect 4-pin power cord and the Slave IDE connection. When I power it on it goes through the POST screen fine. Then, when it gets to the "press del for setup" screen, it just flickers out and restarts.

What is causing this problem and how do I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Default

check the jumpers. is it set to slave or is it cable select or master. i reccomend always setting your drives to master or slave manually rather than using cable select. could be a power issue
