Default xp x64 vs x86

i was just wondering how much of a performance boost do i get from xp x64?

64-bit code is faster than 32-bit code, but you will only see improved performance when running 64-bit programs.
Most programs are still 32-bit.

You might have some problems running programs on x64 edition though. But I think there are enough drivers for most hardware.

As a user of x64, I would say stay where you're at for now. There is no noticeable performance boost yet, since most programs aren't made for x64 (as stated earlier). Consider upgrading in a few months or so.

how about vista vs xp?

i heard vista is now capable of giving up ram if another program needs it but is vista willing to give up CPU usage?
