WMP will only play Mp3 files

any type of video file tried to be open freezes the whole computer!
I have version 9
Donwloaded DirectX
Installed video card drivers
Installed Codecs


(If thes is the wrong section please move)

Ideas?

I would think maybe spyware or something. Do other programs lag and stuff of that sort? Or maybe the video file is corrutp? But even then it would just give you an error message. Try running some anti virus/spyware tools.

Did you try Getting the latest Version of WMP and reinstalling?

Theres always VLC or Winamp.

THis is a fresh install. So no spyware
Windows is not currupt, i checked
I use VLC sometimes, but videos online use WMP, and those freeze also....

EDIT:
Versions 10 and 11beta also have the same problems

VLC makes my computer LAG, and it plays the audio fromt the video, but not the video....

What type of Video file are you trying to play?

Install VLC and Mplayer and THEN install the K-Lite Codec Pack.

Should work fine, seeing as how VLC is EXTREMELY light weight compared to bloated-ole'-Windows-Media-Player, you are either halucinating and making up the lag, or blaming the lag caused by something else on VLC.
