| Well, I think I've figured out pretty much everything I want for my new system, and I'm just asking for any last minute advice or changes. If I win a place in the Newegg casemod competition, I'll be buying and building in a few days. If not, I'm going to be waiting until around mid october to buy and build it. Anyway, here're the parts: DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136157 AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539 OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Platinum System Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227210 ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU 120mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118115 Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103931 AeroCool AEROENGINE C-class AEROENGINE-C BS Black Steel ATX Mid Tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811196005 Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007 CREATIVE Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit 30SB041000000 8 (7.1) Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102177 Logitech X-530 70 Watts 5.1 Speaker http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121118 Finally, for the video card it looks like I have a few options. I'm going to be getting a 7800 GT, and I'd prefer to buy from one of the better manufacturers like BFG Tech, eVGA, or Leadtek. eVGA card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130239 Leadtek card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814122228 BFG Tech card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143037 Total cost for this system: Around $1500 This system will serve a few purposes: 1. Playing ElderScrolls: Oblivion without any lag and with lots of graphical and sound quality 2. Rendering advanced 3DS MAX scenes and animations 3. Lasting for a few years (and perhaps lasting me even through college) 4. Being as quiet as possible I'll probably do a little overclocking as well, but not very much until I'm more experienced. I don't need Disk Drives or a Harddrive, as I've already got those. I could probably get a new 80 mm fan though. |

| Nope, I've already got a very very nice LCD monitor. I'm probably going to go for the SLI board anyway, because I'll most likely drop another 7800 GT card in it a couple years down the line when they're cheaper and when I'll probably need a performance boost as well. I'm not to big a fan of Onboard sound either, as it's not as good as using a soundcard (even if the soundcard is a bargain one). The DFI board only supports 16 bits, whereas the SB Live supports 24 bit sound. I don't know if the DFI onboard sound supports EAX either... |
