i'll let one of the card guys answer that.
im not the resident expert on video cards. i've never had an x1950 card, so i dont know if it is better than the 7900gs. i did have a 7900gs (actually 2 of them in SLI) and i really liked them. i had an hd2900 and thats how i got experience with ati's user interface and overclocking utilities.
by the way your mobo doesnt need to be anything special to overclock your video card, you do it thru software.
i think the 7900gs uses a little less power than the 1950. not sure. anyone?

I dunno, but I love my 7900gs. I told Clay to pick one up last year when the EVGA was like $150 with a 20 MIR.. But he wussed out on me.

I told ya Clay, Crysis all medium @ 1280x1024 on my gs w/ 1gb of ram.

its a close race between X1950 and 7900GS either one is good. Im not sure which is necessarily the better, but still i would go for the 7900GS.. possibly OC nicely to a GTX.

The X1950 PRO is a slightly stronger performer at stock speeds. The 7900 GS has a good overclocking reputation, while the X1950 PRO does not.

the age old battle of the 7900GS vs the X1950PRO...two extremely close cards.

Either one is a good choice however the 7900GS once overclocked will beat out the X1950PRO overclocked by a little bit, however once overclocked the 7900GS takes a lot more power...close to 110 watts at 600/800

Ya but last year my 7600gt was smoking lol anyways i have looked at all the benchmarks and the X1950 pro does beat the 7900gs more than the 7900gs except its only by a few fps. Im going to go with a X1950pro and 2 gig of that crucial ram i should be set then

I will pass on that lol you know about my ocing capabilities lol. I will probably oc when i build another rig but for now i just want a better card and more ram.
