Default need help w/purchasing high performance laptop

I'm looking at buying a Arura m7700 laptop from alienware. Here's the specs:

- AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-55 with HyperTransport Technology
- VIA K8T890 + VT8237A Chipset
- 17" WideXGA+ 1440 x 900 LCD Display
- 2GB Dual Channel DDR SO-DIMM at 400MHz - 2 x 1024MB
- 256MB NVidia® GeForce™ Go 6800 Ultra
- 40GB 5400 RPM SATA
- 24x10x24 CD-RW / 8X DVD Combo w/Software MPEG2 Decoder
- Alienware® m7700 12-cell Lithium-Ion Smart Battery Pack
- External Wireless 802.11a/b/g PCMCIA Card- Recommended for longer range
Price: $3,673

Whats everybody's opinion on this set up and alienware in general?

The reason I'm looking for a powerful laptop is because I do alot of graphic design and looking to get into video editing and 3d animation also gaming occassionaly.

That setup? Good for a laptop.

Alienware? Overpriced, like that setup.

Wait a sec, before you go and buy that check around on some internet sites for other laptops with similar specs. If you can find a good one thats cheaper then go for it, otherwise go with that. Not sure what an acer ferrari costs (probably overpriced like alienware ones) but check them out.

Actually an Acer Ferrari is $2,049 and well worth the price.

Yeah, it's priced pretty good but I dont think I could handle the 15in display. Also it only comes with 1 gig of ram, I know thats probably plenty but I want a computer that can still out perform most computers 2 or 3 years down the road. I just want it to be able to handle anything I throw at it.
