Smile need help with a build-minor gaming and home video editing :)

hey guys,

i need some help picking out parts for a build that will be used for minor gaming, minor video and sound editing. by minor editing i mean just editing my home videos. i dont have a budget but i want to spend as less as possible. i wont be upgrading this comp for atleast 2 years, but after 2 years, i will be moving out of the US, so i dont need it to be that future proof.

I am planning to use my 7900 GS for now. i already have a 20 inch monitor, and a 500 gb hard drive.

so please guys let me know what would be best. i am also considering of doing raid 1 as i will have all my home videos on this new comp, and i dont want to lose it.

main purpose would be for minor video editiing and minor gaming, so i dont think i will need more than my current 7900 GS

thanks for your help.

Mobo supporting 1 PCI-E and AM2 processors
Newegg.com - ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

pretty fast processor, 2.7ghz. mine is 2.3 and flies
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Brisbane 2.7GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

OCZ Dual Channel 1024MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Platinum Memory (2 x 512MB) OCZ2P8001GK at TigerDirect.com

or 2 sets of these (2 gigs total like this is much better and leaves room for expansion)
OCZ DFI Special Edition Dual Channel 1024MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory OCZ2P800LP1G at TigerDirect.com

psu-
Ultra LS400 Lifetime Series 400W Power Supply - ATX, SATA-Ready, PCI-Express at TigerDirect.com

If you want an Intel build then get this

Motherboard
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP43D2A7 LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

CPU
Newegg.com - Intel Pentium E2200 Allendale 2.2GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

You can get 2GB ram for $19.5 after MIR
Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

You can also get E7200 instead of E2200 if it fits your budget

whoa guys.

7900gs is a good card and really shouldn't limit the build he would get.

A E7200 (as Maroon suggested) or a E8400 would be good along with the motherboard and RAM Maroon linked.

can you guys recommend me a cheap but good mobo for a raid 1 setup. i am planning to use either the e2200 or 27200 or the q6600.

would the q6600 be overkill for my needs??

overkill? depends I would get the e7200 over the q6600, just because it's cheaper and it's going to be better for your use I think. but you mentioned you wouldn't be upgrading for 2 or so years, so i really can't say if the e7200 will be good in 2 years. maybe jump up to the e8400 which is more than adequate for your needs.

Don't get the q6600 if your gonna overclock. Go for a Q6700 or E7200/E8***
