Default Making a better computer

Hello, this is my first post
Well, I want to build a great reliable computer, one that can play most new games. Since I'm too young to get a job, I turn to my parents, they say work and save.. Meh, so I'm on a fixed budget.

What do I do with my computer?
Well, theres allot.. Lets see, I make models, make pictures, fool with game engines, play online, strategy and shooter games.. Do ALLOT of things on the internet also.
I need a computer that can multi task. Mine just don't cut it.

First question... What do I go with AMD or Intel?

If I go with AMD, I would get these parts...

Newegg.com - AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors
Newegg.com - MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Newegg.com - VisionTek 900202 Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards [X2]
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - Thermaltake W0093RU ATX 12V 2.0 Version 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CUL, TUV, FCC, and CB - Power Supplies
Newegg.com - XION Solaris XON-403 Black with Green LED Light Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Total - $737

A bit pricey for me.. But, it seems good. I may not buy 2 of those cards though.

If I go with Intel, I would get these parts...

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Processors
Newegg.com - EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards
Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGE88512GTOCE GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - Thermaltake W0093RU ATX 12V 2.0 Version 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CUL, TUV, FCC, and CB - Power Supplies
Newegg.com - XION Solaris XON-403 Black with Green LED Light Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Total - $780

This is where I'm confused.. WHICH IS BETTER??? Heh, which is more powerful and faster? I really don't know.. I'll go with the one thats the fastest.

I can't exceed $800, because, well It would take ages to come up with the money. I'll be doing jobs for my parents for the rest of the summer for now anyways.

So, which is the best to go with?

I would get the Intel build

But get a cheaper motherboard
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP43D2A7 LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

This motherboard saves you $100, so it gives you room to buy a better single video card like 9800GTX or HD4850

Hmm..
I hear this motherboard
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-MA78G-DS3H AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Is good, and the graphics card is up to 8800GT standards?
Might go with a whole nother setup.

Though, I've been reading, and it seems those two 4870's beet two 8800's.. Am I right?

You know, I could do this setup for half the cost, and still be great for what I need it for.

Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor - Processors
Newegg.com - Foxconn A7GM-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - Thermaltake W0093RU ATX 12V 2.0 Version 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CUL, TUV, FCC, and CB - Power Supplies
Newegg.com - XION Solaris XON-403 Black with Green LED Light Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Sure it won't be as great as the other 2, but its probably only a couple steps behind...
I could Crossfire another ATI card later on also...

On a motherboard that doesn't support crossfire ?

The motherboard you posted have only one PCI Express 2.0, so it won't support crossfire

In case you don't know, some Intel motherboards support crossfire.

EDIT: Here is a motherboard with crossfire support
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

And a great CPU
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors

I would go with the Intel build if you looking to xfire in the future.

Also look at the new HD4850 and 9800GTX, which maroon mentioned before, HD4850 - xfire, 9800GTX - SLi

Definitely go with the Intel build with the motherboard maroon1 suggested and a HD 4850.

Alright, thanks for the replies,
I came up with this from what you suggested.

So if I use the motherboard maroon1 suggested, and a HD4850, and the rest of the components I came up with, it would be the best to go with?

Also, I'll go with the Q6600 instead of the one maroon1 suggested. Its better right?

I don't have the kind of money to crossfire 2 4850, but If I go with this, I will a bit later.

Or, I could go with this setup and save about $100
Newegg.com - DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor - Processors
Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100242L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
Newegg.com - Thermaltake W0093RU ATX 12V 2.0 Version 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CUL, TUV, FCC, and CB - Power Supplies
Newegg.com - XION Solaris XON-403 Black with Green LED Light Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
Heh, I have a good feeling about that setup for some reason. A better feeling than the other setups. IDK. But, I know that this is probably perfect for me. I'll probably do it.

nvm, if you thinking about X-Fire later on
consider this one then
Corsair VX 550W ATX Power Supply - CMPSU-550VX

also I've heard good things about this one
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor
