Default I would appreciate any opinions on this planned build for end of Sept.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion...asp?ID=5664492

In addition to the above items, I already own all the peripherals I want and an Optiquest Q19wb monitor which is more than enough for me. I am also staying Win XP SP2 for now.

Newegg.com - ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q19WB-2 Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1 Built in Speakers - Retail

Great information on this site. I plan to build a new rig at the end of Sept. but just have a few last questions that I hope you don't mind helping me with. I've only done one build before. Don't worry about the pricing advice - I live in Hong Kong till Jan. so it won't be relavent. Also, I plan on using this for about 60% games, 20% DVD backups, 20% business software... perhaps some video editing if I ever decide to buy a camcorder. I'd also like this rig to last about 3-4 years by just progressively upgrading parts. (For example 2G Ram to 4 w/Vista). I was able to keep a Compaq Presario 6000 for about 4 years without feeling to hampered down, I'd like to be able to do the same here. Questions...

1) Seeing as how I'm not desperate to build until COD4 and Crysis hit, should I just hold out till Sept. or should I go ahead and get it over with now --- very tempted.

2) Should I go with an E6750 for now and then upgrade to the next quadcore level in about 1.5 yrs. time, or just go with the Q6600 now and sit on it for 3 years or so?

Thanks for the help guys, I really do appreciate that this forum exists for the public.

personally i'd go with a quad core because they're currently cheap and there's almost no reason to not get one unless your budget is really low. my answer to your first question is that it's all about how long your willing to wait, if you wait longer, newer stuff will come out and the older will get cheaper. But you cant wait forever so you need to decide when to get it.

Like the many builds here that are similar, you're good to go. You might want to consider the Tuniq, if you plan on overclocking that Q6600.

Nice looking build. Are the q6600s on newegg now G0s? or is there a chance you'd get the old ones.
