No the space isnt taken by formatting. Manufacterers measure the size of a drive by a megabyte = 1000bytes, while OS measure a megabyte at 1024. All of the manufacturers know this. But they still lie to the consumer about the size. I knew i'd be losing space, but it just irks me that no other product on the market can get away with lying about stuff the same way that hard drive manufacterers do. /rant.

well technically a gigabite is 1000, maybe microsoft should learn to measure it by 1000 instead of 1024.

It appears someone doesn't understand how computers work.

Im interested in seeing how this works out because I was thinking of building an HTPC. When do you expect it to be up and running? Does anyone know if HD tuner cards are coming out soon?

Ya i have the happauge 1800 card. ITs a hybrid card that does both hd and sd signals. Thats the reason i started this thread, i figure theres at least a few people interested in making a HTPC. I should have the beast2 up and running by tuesday. Out of town until sunday, bowl monday night. So tuesday will be the first chance i get to actually mess with it.
