I'm not planning on overclocking, would these components still be good to run those games?

yea im pretty sure you can play games for about 3-4 years with medium settings fine.

the comp i have here (in my signature) can stay run at 130 frames with settings on high, and your 6600gt is going to beat my x700, so your computer is pretty good

OK, thanks.

Nother question:
Is Win XP the way to go for gaming? I was just wondering if Linux compares?

Also, is the going price for XP about $200?

msi k8n neo4-f - 85
amd athlon 64 3000+ venice core (skt 939) - 145
1GB patriot signature series - 80
evga geforce 6600gt 128MB - 150
use the hdd you already have
buy some dvd-rom drive like benq or lite-on
then pick up that antec case w/ psu at fry's for 50 and your only 10 + however much for you drive/s over you 500 dollar budget.

edit: you can get windows xp home (which will be sufficient for a budget gamer like you) for a lot less than 200. i'd say maybe 80 or something.

2nd edit: just looked at newegg - oem win xp home for 88 bucks
