Default HELP! New router, LAN connection not there.

Help! I just got a new motherboard and stuff plus a new wireless router (though I connect to it by an ethernet cable.) I followed the instructions setting it up, and I'm pretty sure it should work since when I plug the ethernet cable into my computer the port lights up. When I turn on the computer I can connect to the internet via my wireless card, but for some reason the computer doens't list my LAN connection in the internet connections folder, and my cable router is not being detected. What can I do?
