Headphones that plug into a dedicated (or even an onboard) sound card are usually better.
Personally I have Sennheiser PC160 headphones.

the PC160's have a long cable.
Also, the X-Fi's front panel audio connector is exactly the same as the Audigy 2 ZS, in case you needed to know OverclockersClub Forums > Audigy 2 Zs Front Panel Connector Guide
Or you could do what I did, and solder an audio connector to some pins, then plug the front ports into it
