Default HD3870 vs 8800GT single card (no SLI / Crossfire)

Whats the real difference? The HD3870 seems to have better stats and is cheaper, so if you're going with one card only (no SLI or Crossfire), which is the better choice ?

Newegg.com - ASUS EAH3870/G/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

VS

Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N802-A3 GeForce 8800GT Superclocked 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

8800GT performs better

Check this review
AnandTech: ATI Radeon HD 3870 & 3850: A Return to Competition

EDIT: It seems that both those video cards that you posted are out of stock

If want to buy 8800GT then get this one because it is at stock
Newegg.com - XFX PVT88PYDQ4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

And this one cost only $269 just like HD3870

8800gt is better choice for single card.
often, 3870 would be better choice for crossfire. depends on what games you play, what resolution, what settings etc etc.
3870 is a good choice too, and its a little cheaper.

the 3870 is supposed to drop a lot though....

but now after seeing that, I'd like to keep oblivion under wraps
