| Ultra Techie | Hey guys, I made a guide to give an idea of what us “Tech Forum” users would typically recommend for a general build in a certain budget range. I see the same things being recommended over and over. I think this guide would be a nice place to showcase builds that we are constantly repeating everyday to people. It will try to keep the prices and parts updated as everyone sees fit. Suggestions are welcome and encouraged, so we can try and make these builds the best we can. I’ve put together what I think the best builds are for these price ranges and your input would be great. My goal is to have a regularly updated guide with the most current parts, prices, and performance for the money. Let me know if you think this is a bad idea guys, it’s not final, but hears what I got so far… ================ With all the various computer parts to choose from, it’s sometimes hard to decide which combination is best. This guide is designed to give you, the builder, what we here at Tech-Forums believe to be the best all around build, for your particular budget. These are of course general builds that might not be ideal for you, but serve as a good starting point. Reader Note 1: For standardization purposes, all items are linked and priced to newegg.com. Other sites such as Zipzoomfly.com are also highly recommended for competitive pricing. Reader Note 2: Cases are not listed in the build due to the individuality factor in choosing a case. Case prices and other accessories should be added onto the cost. Reader Note 3: Prices do not include the cost of shipping which should be factored into your final purchase price. Hears a link to an excel spreadsheet which has all the information below, so you can customize it yourself. The spreadsheet is dynamic, so totals update themselves. http://home.comcast.net/~jumping_bea...uter_Guide.xls $1,500-1,600Power: Corsair 520W Power Supply $124.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Power%2bSupply Components: Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R $129.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128050 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Q6600 $299.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017 Ram: G.Skill 2GB HZ's $129.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065 Graphics: EVGA 8800GTX 768MB $516.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130072 Drives Hard Drive 1: Seagate Barracuda 7200 320GB $79.99 Hard Drive 2: Seagate Barracuda 7200 320GB $79.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140 Optical: SAMSUNG Black 18X $39.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...1&Tpk=SH-S183L Cooling Heatsink/Fan: Tuniq Tower 120 59.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835154001 Totals $1,401.92 + Case + Shipping - Rebates $1,200-1,300Power: Corsair 520W Power Supply $105.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Power%2bSupply Components Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R $129.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128050 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Q6600 $299.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017 Ram: G.Skill 2GB HK's $114.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231114 Graphics: EVGA 8800GTS 320MB $279.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082 Drives Hard Drive 1: Seagate Barracuda 7200 250GB $67.99 Hard Drive 2:Seagate Barracuda 7200 250GB $67.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144 Optical: SAMSUNG Black 18X $39.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...1&Tpk=SH-S183L Cooling Heatsink/Fan: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 $34.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...%2bFreezer%2b7 Totals $1,105.93 + Case + Shipping - Rebates $900-1,000Power: FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500 $86.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104934 Components Motherboard: BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 $79.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138026 CPU:AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane $59.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103036 Ram: G.Skill 2GB HK's $114.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231114 Graphics: EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB $279.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082 Drives Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB $67.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144 Optical: SAMSUNG Black 18X $29.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151133 Cooling CPU Cooler: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro $24.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185125 Totals $743.93 + Case + Shipping - Rebates $600-700Power: FSP Group AX400-PN $39.99 - $7.84 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953 Components Motherboard: BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 $79.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138026 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane $59.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103036 Ram: G.Skill 2GB HK's $114.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231114 Graphics: EVGA 7900GS $124.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130056 Drives Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB $67.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148144 Optical: SAMSUNG Black 18X $29.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151133 Cooling CPU Cooler: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro $24.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185125 Totals $541.93 + Case + Shipping - Rebates CasesBudget: Coolermaster Centurion 5 $49.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119077 Normal: Antec P180 $129.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129154 Normal: Antec Nine Hundred $139.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...pk=antec%2b900 Normal: Thermaltake Armor $149.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154 Monitors20": ViewSonic Q20WB Black 20" $199.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116075 20.1": SCEPTRE X20WG $199.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824112006 22": SCEPTRE X22WG $249.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824112009 22": Samsung 226BW $319.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001096 MiceLogictech MX518 39.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826104178 Logictech G5 45.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826104191 Razer Copperhead 68.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826153105 Last edited by Jumping_Bean514; 07-22-2007 at 05:53 AM. |

| Very nice, the only addition i could suggest is a choice for the e6750 cpu in the $1,500-1,600 range and a change the cpu to a e6650 for the $1,200-1,300. This should be stuck, and updated monthly i think.

| One dumb Techie | I think for the first 2 builds, Xclio 550W PSU would be at a better performance at better price.
