| i was wondering how well do these overclock. would this be a good one to overclock a e6320 with a gigabyte ds3 to the max.(about 3.2ghz maybe) anything else around that price for a low budget build? i know the hz is amazing, but just was curious Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

| Renowned Budgeting Master | At 3.2ghz you would need ram that could do 458mhz and those on average will do at least DDR2-950 so don't worry. You may not have the tightest timings in the world but timings don't matter that much at all in an Intel system as long as you get your FSB. I'm pretty sure I have read reviews of the NQ's hitting DDR2-1000 at 5-5-5-15 timings which is not bad for cheap ram.

| Renowned Budgeting Master | Ok where to start... Ram timings are weird but usually they are X-X-X-X the main 4. generally common ones you will find for DDR2 memory is 5-5-5-15 and 4-4-4-12 but there are weird ones such as my custom 4-4-3-9. Each number stands for something and the first one is known as the Cas Latency and it is the one that plays the most important roll in performance. generally the lower the Cas the better but the difference of 4 and 5 is usually only about 1 or 2 FPS on an intel system. The following numbers do almost nothing for the performance in gaming. Those NQ run at 5-5-5-15 on 1.9v at 400mhz. If you raise the volts to around 2.2 then you should be able to hit at least 5-5-5-15 @ 500mhz. To get 3.2ghz on an E6300 you need 458 mhz. (458x7) I'm willing to be that you can do that FSB while staying in Cas latency 4 but if not it's nothing big really. The G.skill HZ's can do 4-4-4-10 @ 500mhz and 5-5-5-15 @ 600mhz usually.

| Renowned Budgeting Master | In order to get 3.0 ghz on a Q6600 you would only need 333 FSB meaning value DDR2-677 ram would work hah. Just take the mhz such as 3000 and divide it by the chips multiplier which the E6600 and Q6600 have a x9 multi. 3000/9= 333.3mhz. With that ram I can guarantee you that you can do Cas 4 even at probably 3.5ghz.
