In the same price range, I would go with this:
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 (rev. 1.3) LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

The Abit seems to making many buggy boards.

For the PSU, go for the cheaper, but just as powerful and reliable, Corsair 520w. You don't need 650w.

For the mobo, if you want 650i, I suggest either the MSI P6N SLI-FI or MSI P6N Platinum. If overclocking, I think 965Ps do a little better. I would then suggest the DS3.

yeah i know but corsair psu's are not common in australia, thats the cheapest silverstone on that site(im leaving room for upgrade). the thing about the mobo is that my friend is an idoit and likes things to be black or dark blue to go with his case.

The MSI P6N SLI-FI is the cheaper one. You mentioned the ASUS 650i. Is that the P5N-E SLI?

The Asus 650i is a fine board and it will work great. Yes for that build I suggest a 500-550w PSU.

Really that build could run on a good 450w.
