Default connecting syncmaster to dvd player

I think this is the right forum to post this in, so here it goes. I have a syncmaster 22in. My reciever has that composite output (the green, blue, red or what ever it) and i was wonder if i could get a cable that has one end vga and one end composite, or would i have to get an adapter or converter or whatever they are called, in order to watch dvd's from the dvd player.

Can't you watch DVD's from the computer with a DVD drive?
