Default Building a Gaming Rig

I am currently going to build a gaming rig and want to see what you guys think I could improve to make my system faster, I am still in doubt wether I should go with AMD or Intel so I will see what you guys say, here is what I plan to get, keep in mind this is set up as an AMD rig although if Intel could make it better, don't hesitate to tell me:

-Cooler Master Stacker 830 Silver Aluminum Case
-Asus Crosshair Socket AM2 nforce 590 SLI ATX Mobo
-Crucial 2GB DDR2 PC 6400 Ram
-EVGA 8800 Ultra 768MB GDDR3 x16
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0Ghz 2x1MB L2 Cache AM2 Processor
-X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1
-Thermaltake Toughpower 1200Watt PSU
-150GB WS Raptor at 10,000Rpm
-Sony Optiarc Black 16x DVD/CD Rom Drive
-Lite-On Black 20x SATA DVD Burner
-Tuniq Heatsink
-5 Antec 120mm Fans

Budget?
Nevertheless, a C2D build is better.

I agree atm Intel owns AMD, would reccomend e6750 if your going dual or q6600 if quad also you might want to get rid of the 1200 watt psu as even for sli it isnt close to necessary. I'd also add another raptor and do raid, and check out the p5nE sli asus mobo i have it and find that its amazing for ocing without volatage mods

OMG, a C2D build would be the CRAZIEST thing to do with $2000, not AMD.
You could consider a quad-core and a 8800GTX on 2 GB of ram. I'll let the others speak.

With 2k you can build a really nice C2D build but i would suggest not going over 1.6k

I'd give it a 1.5k build and keep the 500 in savings for future use. You can grab a case like the Lian Li or Antec 900. Also you don't need a 1.2kw psu, a 600w or equivalent will work fine. Don't get a 150gb raptor. Get a 60gb raptor and a 200-300gb file drive, much better performance. Next, you don't need two separate drives. A LG combo CD/DVD drive is much better.
