This seems like a very tough decision for me and I'd like your expert opinions.

I have three video cards here - disregarding the price factor and focusing only on performance, should I go for:

One Nvidia Geforce 7900GS 256 MB

or

Two XFX Nvidia GeForce 6800XTs running in SLI, 256MB each.



It would make more sense to me to go for the slightly older 6800xt's and get double the memory power but I could be wrong. I havnt looked too deep into recent video cards so I would appreciate some well calculated advise. If there are any benchmark experiments that deal with this issue I would appreciate a link.

One Nvidia Geforce 7900GS will outperform two GeForce 6800XT by far

6800XT is outdated video card and it have only 8 pipes. 7900GS has 20 pipes

Get one 7900GS

I second maroon1. The 7900GS has more pipelines than SLIed 6800XTs, and will perform better. It's also a great card for the price. Plus the 7900GS, is a very overclockable card.

no way man 7900 gs all the way, most sites u go to will say that a gs can be overclocked to beat a GT in battle (1950gt and 7900 gt)
