Default $3500 budget for gaming and video editing (needs everything)

Alright this is for a friends class so thats why the budget is so high and try to get close to the budget. Since its high budget I assumed it would need to do everything. Need suggestions for a computer that would be overclocked and one that wouldn't. The budget includes hardware, case, monitor, and OS.

Thanks guys.

P.S.

Need suggestions asap because its due tommorow. Don't need tons of details because I know abit about hardware so just throw in suggestions and thats fine.

Case - Lian-Li PC-A70A Full Tower
Motherboard - Abit IP35 Pro
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz OEM (From ClubIT.com)
RAM - 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 x2
Power Supply - PC Power & Cooling Silencer 610w
Graphic cards - Sapphire HD 2900Pro 512MB x2
Hard drives - Western Digital 74GB 10k RPM and Western Digital 750GB x2
Optical drive - Sony NEC Optiarc DVD Burner
Sound card - Creative X-Fi Sound Blaster OEM
Monitor - Samsung 245BW 24"
OS - Vista Home Premium 64-bit
Keyboard - Logitech G11

CPU Cooler, if overclocking - Tuniq 120 (From svc.com)
Speakers - ???

If not overclocking, then just get the regular retail version of the Q6600, intead of the OEM.

I don't normally suggest the full budget, but you said to keep it close, so I tried.

But if it were me, I would just spend half of it, and save the rest for future upgrades:

Case - Cooler Master 690
Motherboard - Abit IP35 Pro
CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz OEM (From ClubIT.com)
RAM - 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 x2
Power Supply - Corsair 550VX
Graphic cards - Sapphire HD 2900Pro 512MB
Hard drives - Western Digital 750GB
Optical drive - Sony NEC Optiarc DVD Burner
Sound card - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy
Monitor - Samsung 226BW 22"
OS - Windows XP Pro 64-bit OEM
Keyboard - Logitech G11
Mouse - Logitech MX518
CPU Cooler, if overclocking - Tuniq 120 (From svc.com)
Speakers - ???

Well what if you only had a $2000 budget so that I can put the rest into software and other accessories? This computer needs to be used by a teacher in a classroom setting. I have no idea about computers and am really hating this assignment right now.

Then go with the second list I posted. It comes to a total around the $2k mark.

What is the main purpose of this computer?

Basically similar to what a college student would use a computer for....documents, presentations, researching on the internet, listening to music...the usual.

I think it is just a "what if" thing. Doesn't sound like anything is getting purchased.

Then you don't need to spend anywhere close to $3500 for that kind of computer. Here is a revised list:

Case - Cooler Master 690
Motherboard - Gigabyte P35-DS3L
CPU - Intel Dual Core E2180 2.0GHz
RAM - 2GB G. Skill DDR2-800 NQs
Power Supply - Rosewill RP550
Graphic cards - EVGA 8600GT 256MB
Hard drives - Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB
Optical drive - Sony NEC Optiarc DVD Burner
Sound card - Creative Sound Blaster Audigy
Monitor - ViewSonic Optiquest 20"
OS - Vista Home Premium 32-bit OEM
Keyboard & Mouse - Microsoft SB2 Combo
Speakers - Logitech X-230

Comes to a total, under $1k.

That would be what you want. Bundled with software of your choice. Just click on the links in b1gapl's post to view the prices.
