Default 2 sticks better than 3?

i have 2 sticks of PC8500 ram installed. i also have a third i toke out to overclock, but seeming as i cant, im going to put it back in. the third stick is PC5200 (or whatever is closest) so will it slow down the other two?

i would think that the PC8500 sticks woul run at whatever speed they are meant to and the PC5200 stick would run at its normal speed

Nope...

All the sticks will run at the speed of the slowest stick, installed. So if you put in that PC2-5300 stick, all the sticks will run at that speed. I suggest you take that one out, so the 8500s can run at their designated speeds, instead of slowing down.

also running an odd number of sticks will inhibit you from running them in dual-channel. no bueno.
