Default Your opinion on the gaming potential of...

Athlon 64 3500+ CPU
GIGABYTE Ga-K8U-939 Motherboard
ATI Radeon 9600XT
1GB PC3200 DDR400 RAM

What kind of newer games could this play, and at approximately what framerates?

What could I change to make it better for gaming?

Haha. Good one.

I'm not after a super-gaming-rig or anything, simply 'cause I just can't afford it. Just something that can play HL2 and newer games at decent FPS's.

you can play alot of new games just with lower resolutions and low detail. oblivion might be one of the newer games you can't play with the 9600

You serious? I can play Half Life 2 NOW with my Celeron and half a gig of ram, but on low resolution, and medium settings.

I figured a decent CPU and a gig of RAM would make things a whole lot better?

No way I can afford that... Guess I'll upgrade the CPU and RAM for now, and save up for a new video card afterwards... Is 150 bucks enough for a semi-decent card?

You don't have to upgrade everything thats just what lotto 649'er reggie_da_man would do. Anyways, the major upgrade i would suggest is to go with a 6600GT over your ATI 9600.

JFY - i just bought a 3.0 GHz cpu on ebay and i'm selling my old socket 478 2.4 Ghz for $75.00 (Canadian) shipping not included .
PM me if your interested.
