Default Windows xp/ Vista for gaming?

It is my understanding that 3dmark and most other games run at the same speed on vista as they do on xp. Is there any difference in performance between the two os's? Does Vista's extra flair hurt 3dmark or FRAP readings?

There is a slight decrease in performance on vista because the drivers arent as optimized but its not very much. At most i would think 1-2 frame rates and 100 3Dmark points...it will get better though.

To be honest, I think drivers are the least of the problems with performance in Vista.

It's just so bloated.

My dad asked me to install XP on his Laptop instead of Vista, because he just didn't like how slow it was.

Windows SP2 has the least bugs and it runs quicker then the Vista right now. I suggest you stick with Windows SP2.

Going to stick with what I have, not going to upgrade.
