| Hi, I am thinking about building a new computer, as I have not been updating myself with the latest hardware news, I don't know which one to buy. I have looked at Xeon, P4, Athlon 64's, but I dont know which one is better. I'm not trying to build a budget computer. I'm a software developer, I have several instances of visual studio open (cus im useless at programming) and play games a lot too (fear, half life etc) Could you guys recommend a CPU, the correct memory and motherboard. Thanks |

| Ultra Techie | fx's are pretty overprice for what you get in my opinion, and i think only one of them is dual core. dual core is the new type of processor that utilizes two cores so its better to multitask, and in the future games will support dual core, but you can still run current games on dual core. so basically i'd go with the X2, i have one, and am not dissapointed.

anyway, which one is better depends on what program you are running. the dual core CPU's have more overall CPU power, but often programs do not take advantage of the second core. however, since dual core CPU's are becoming more popular, more programs are being made to support them. | |
