Guys,

I have recently bought a new case that came with a 400w PSU but it has no P6 connector and the M/b docs say that it is necessary to connect to ensure sufficient 3.3v supply.

Can anyone advise me, the system booted up with a 0x0000007B stop error which I put down to a different chipset (borrowed the HDD to test the m/b. Other than that all seemed fine......will I damage anything not using the P6 connector or do I need to buy a new PSU?

I would get a new PSU. I don't know if you'll run into problems. It gives more power for the CPU.

Thanks for your reply, the PSU is brand new and the m/b secondhand, so before I rush out and buy a new PSU can I ask if all socket 468 m/b's require that ATX P6 power Supply or could I transfer the CPU onto a new socket 478 M/b?

I know it seems a little strange but if I am buying something new better to repace an old bit than an unused one.

It can run without it depending on the motherboard design (some will stop boot if its missing) but it may not stay stable. Just get a new PSU to stay safe. Its not worth the chance.

You can't use a different Socket CPU in another type of socket.
