Default Video Card Question

Well I'm about to build a new rig and I wanted to know which would be a better choice. I know the n8000 series is d10 proof but the price of a n8600gt is around the same as a n7950gt and I heard the 8600gt performs like a 7600gt. So which should I get? I mean will the 7950gt be able to play future games as well?

Thanks

Unless you are going with some form of the 8800/2900 you will be better off going with a 7xxx/X1xxx card.

Yes, the 8xxx/2xxx series is dx10 compatible, but there really aren't enough dx10 games to warrant it (in my eyes). Besides, if you don't have Vista, dx10 is a moot point.

What you heard is correct. An 8600GT is basically a 7600GT with DX10 capability. But it's not worth the DX10 capabilities either.

The better choice would be the 7950GT. If I remember correctly, the 8600GTs are around the same price as a 7900GS. The 7950GTs are like in the $200 range. Well depending on where you're buying from. I'm getting this from newegg.com

Yeah you're right, 7900gs is around the price of a 8600gt. A 7950gt goes for $150 after a $30 rebate.

And I was also wondering if the x1950pro is better or worse than the 7950gt?

The X1950PRO is slightly better than the 7900GS. So yes...it is lower than the 7950GT. The X1950XT is better than the 7950GT, and it's not far from the 7950GT price tag either:

Thats not true, 8600GT is better than 7600GT. In some cases it performs nearly as good as 7900GS
