am looking for a laptop that is very portable as i will be moving stuff back and forth from uni to home. i live in australia so i dont know american prices but something around the same price as the Dell Inspiron 710m (~AU$1800).

we had a dell before but i found that dell is very poor especially in customer support. just btw what do people think of the 710m in terms of value for money?

a few other things:

- i prefer centrino processor because i want max battery life. processor speed isnt that important.
- dont need dvd burner - would like cd tho
- screen size is very unimportant - smaller the better

what will you be doing on it?

if you're going to do basic things, I would recommend maybe a 12 inch Ibook G4

it says the battery should last up to 6 hours, though that's probabbly on low load

word processing, old skool games just to pass time (home comp for games) internet, music, dvd watching et al.

nothing very demanding, like no cad or movie editing.

not a fan of apple either as im a linux user.
