| Upgrading, need advice... Hey guys, I'm going to be upgrading my computer hopefully soon, but I can't spend an enormous amount of money.
Fortunately, there's a huge deal going on with the Intel Core i7 920, and the benchmarks are VERY impressing. Question:
If I purchased this quad core processor, would the techs be able to install it with my current motherboard? Purchasing: Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Newegg.com - Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops Motherboard I own: Asus Striker Extreme Motherboard GPU: 8800GTX
*note* it says on the front of the box "supports 45nm cpu"(whatever that means)
thanks guys!

| Re: Upgrading, need advice... You would need a new board as the Asus you have is socket 775 where as the i7 is socket 1366. |

| Re: Upgrading, need advice... You're probably looking at around $250 and up for a decent board.
Not too great with the newer tech but someone will more than likely be around soon and will be of better help.
You can check these out for now. Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Motherboards,Intel Motherboards,LGA 1366 |
