Default Upgrade

Alright, after a bad experience with a fried mobo/proc, it's time to upgrade.

Currently I have:

a stick of 512 (PC2700) RAM
A Geforce 6800 AGP
400w PSU... and all of the drives, etc.

Basically, I need a new proc and mobo that will allow me to use my old stuff.

I was thinking about going with a : ASUS K8N-E Socket 754 nForce3

But I was wondering, is there such as thing as a socket 939 that has both an AGP/PCI express slot? And that my RAM will work with (Pretty sure there isn't a problem here).

Going along with that, AMD Sempron 64 3400+

Now, if there is a socket 939 that would allow me to keep my video card, I would much prefer that. And how does the processor choice look? Would I be better off with an Athlon XP? Or a Clawhammer?

Sorry for the disjoined post, if it's overly unclear I'll try and clean it up. At any rate, I would really appriciate any advice.

you would be better off with a venice or san diego. get a socket 939 and i don't think it is possible to get a board with both AGP and pci-e.

yeah, those boards exist, but I'd stay away from them. The one or two that I've seen were crappy, crappy brands. You should probably go with pci-e, but if you have a solid AGP card like you do, then maybe a gigabyte?

Nono, I already have a 6800. It is a eVGA though, .

There is a money issue here, and so just going with a San Diego proc, etc, while it would be nice, isn't really an option. Venice on the other hand...

After looking around a bit, do you think this would be a better option?

Cost a bit more, but still within my price range.

More reliable motherboard. Everything else is fine. The Athlon 64 3000+ is a great processor, and the motherboard will support your current video card.
