I've tried several searches and having a tough time even figuring out what to search for. I'm trying to get files of an infected computer so I can reformat it. Silly me thinking I could just remove it and put it in an external case and pull files from it.

How do I view this main drive and its context as like a normal external drive?

Hardware challenge from infected comp:
For some reason even though the keyboard and mouse usb's work, they won't read or use external HD's or other devices. Win XP - Emachine rebuild 462(?) pin runs about 1800 Ghz i think- 300GB segate - 1GB ram.

I can't get any files off the HD & it won't let me get into admin folder.

Infection:
Putting URLs in address window or clicking on links gets redirected to advertised web pages. Nothing porno or malicious but obviously very annoying. Playing call of duty gets interrupted since there's searches going on and attempted popups even if a browser isn't open. Themes and setting are fine after booting but shortly thereafter the menu bar at the bottom of the screen goes from 3 levels high with auto hide to only 1 small strip, always on top and turns white.

Have you tried to just hook it up internally to another computer?

Yeah you can hook it up internally or have you tried going into safemode? Some times that will help but not always, might want to give it a shot. You can also buy a external enclosure and slap in the HD from there.
