Default thinking about a lil upgrade need help

I'm gonna build my son a comp for xmas.
I decided to go ahead and upgrade mine a little and kill two birds with one stone.

current comp opty 144 @ 2.7 and a lt 7600 gt
was going to use either my proc or vc for his and by a new one for me.

cant decide between a new vcard or a fx 55 or dual core any suggestions?

Instead of building a computer, you might want to consider just buying a dell PC. They are pretty cheap and they offer some good deals during xmas time. I don't think you'll save much by building your own.

Anyway, I would suggest getting a dual-core processor and lots of memory (at least a gig). Windows Vista is coming out in January and from what I have heard, it is a very memory-hungry OS.

Get a new video card. Its a waste to upgrade the CPU unless you're getting a new board.
