Hi,

I am kinda new in PC hardware thing. Im deciding to buy a pc with these specs:

Brand new
IBM Pentum III
Intel Motherboard
Separae Video Card
PCI sound card
128MB SD RAM Memory
1.44 MB Floppy disk
8.4 to 15 GB Harddisk
48X LG CD ROM Drive
Keyboard
180watts Multimedia speaker
500 watts AVR
15" monitor
Pixma Canon ip1200 Printer

All for $250.00 USD.

I know the specs are kinda not good but it is worth the price? Should I go ahead and purchase this PC?

Thank you so much in advance.

Just for general home use. Is the specs that bad?

I pulled a computer with the same specs out of the trash (had a clicking fan - so the owner must a threw it out - so I just replaced the fan). Of course it runs great but its not worth $250.

For $250US, I can get a refurb Mac that will run OS X and work for quite some time. You probably wouldn't want to run Vista on that thing.

Also, a local college was selling machines similar to those for $50-$100 each.

That PC is very low-end. For $300, you could probably get something much better from a local store like Best Buy or a site like Newegg.com. That's good for typing, but the extra power for a little cash could be useful.

I mean, I took a Best Buy flier and on the front, I saw a PC with 8x th ram, a 64 bit processor that is way better, a 150gb hdd, and dvd player for $400 + lcd monitor + printer. (after rebate)

Pay $50-$100 more and get something way better.

Sorry, I originally posted the wrong price and didn't mention the rebate.

Yeah like edmn61 said, you look at a best buy ad and see something for a little bit more, but way better specs. buy a dell, they have fairly cheap computers for just basic home use.
