Default Is it safe to place a computer on a carpet?

Like does carpet dust or something somehow get into the computer and damage it? It's going to be under a computer desk, but directly on home carpeting.

If it's bad, what do you recommend we put underneath it? Any cheap plastic or something you can recommend?

A closed Computer Yes.
Bare Components should never be put on carpet.

To limit Dust its a good idea to Raise the Computer a few feet off the carpeted ground.

Well I have my computer on a metal platform about an inch thick, on a carpeted floor. Is that ok?

Its fine. The closer it is to a carpeted flow the more times youll have to dust it out.
(Any floor for that matter.)

Oh it's just that, when my window is open, the cold air seems to go to the floor, so that's why I have my comp there. Of course I dust it, occasionally.
