I recently went to my computer store to look at the prices for ram and when I asked how much it cost they said for brand name computers like hp, dell, and gateway it will cost between $70-$140. Because its a brand computer the brand parts cost 30% more than other ram would. So is there any other way I can get some ram cheaper?

you do not have to get the same brand of RAM as your computer

you just gotta figure out what does your MoBo supports


and Newegg.com seems to be a favorite for most people on this forum

yeah find out what your motherboard supports first. if you find that out i will be more than happy to choose a good stick of ram.
