I am currently looking at buying a stick of RAM off the internet, and I'm wondering if it'll work with my computer. The RAM I want to buy is PC3200/DDR400, and the RAM in my computer is PC2700/DDR. Are the two compatible, or will I fry my system if I try to run them together?

ddr have backward compatibility, it will run at 2700 , to avoid stability issues i suggest youll get one with same cas latency as your current stick , if you dont know what it is then use cpu-z get into "memory" tab

They will work, but it would be a lot better to ditch the slow ram and just get 1 gb of pc3200 ram, cause there will be a noticeable difference. ram these days are really cheap, about 60 bucks for 1 gb - charlie

its not only the ram speed that counts , its the cpu fsb aswell if his cpu fsb is 166 for example then if he will have only pc3200/ddr400 ram it will limit it to pc2700/ddr333
