I'm trying to upgrade an older amd athlon computer for my wife. I am running 2- 256mb sticks of ram one stick is pc 2100 and the other is pc 2700. I want to get a stick of 512 but i'm not sure if i should get pc 2700 or pc 3200? And should i keep in the pc 2100 stick or take it out? I am also upgrading her motherboard and getting a new cpu and video card. Any help would be great! Thanks

Well, if you're upgrading to LGA775 or Socket AM2 (which would be a smart thing to do) then you will be forced to get new RAM anyways.

I'm upgrading to a secket 939. I'm budgeting $250 for this upgrade because she doesn't really need much more than that. But it will be a good upgrade from the socket 462 that she has now.

In that case, get PC3200 RAM. You can keep the old stuff if you want, but if you do, the PC3200 will downclock itself to the speed of the other RAM.

Ok then, but should i keep the pc 2100 stick in there to add the extra 256mb or will that slow down the pc 3200 too much? What is better more ram or faster ram? 1g: 256mb pc2100, 256mb pc2700, and 512mb pc 3200 sticks or 768mb: 256mb pc2700 and 512mb pc 3200?
