Default Question about RAM

im looking at ram on Newegg... and i THOUGHT that higher timing times like 5-5-5-9 were better then lower like 2-3-3-6, but my tech teacher says its more like golf... but he called it the "latency"... so which is right?

do i want a something like

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145574

or something like

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220161

disregarding the different DDRs i can find ones in the same ballpark for either 184 or 240-pin. so which is better?

It depends on which ram your motherboard supports. Does it support DDR or DDR2? Well the DDR2 1066 ram is faster than the DDR 400, because it's a higher speed. Usually DDR2, comes with higher timings.

Your priority for memory should be that you pick DDR2 memory as it is a newer and faster type of memory. The cas latencies matter a little but but they ain't all that. 5-5-5-15 is doable, the lower the better. But you will barely notice it while playing games and such.
