Default Question about dual-channel RAM

If I put 2 x 1 GB RAM in the first "channel," can I have 2 x 512 megs in the second channel? Or do I have to have everything the same density? I guess what I'm asking is, can I have different densities in different "channels," or do they all have to be the same density? thanks.

I believe you can put 2x1gb and 2x512 in the first and second channel, respectively to run dual channel......but I'm assuming you have XP, and 2x1gb is really all you need. Any more than that will kind of slow your system down, because XP can't really handle more than 2gb of ram, effectively.
