yes it is if you would like to. generally it won't cost you much money other than an aftermarket cooler unless you have a really crappy motherboard. overclocking can be quite fun and gives you extra performance for free. plus it makes you look smarter
the only problem is there is always the risk of damaging your hardware but that risk is minimal if you research properly and use common sense. by the way this post would have been better in the overclocking section, perhaps you should ask a mod to move it.
