Default PC2100 vs PC2700

Hey. I currently have a board with 512MB PC2100 in it, but my board does support PC2700.

It is worth upgrading to 512 MB PC2700 or should a person upgrade to 1GB PC2100. I don't know if the extra 66Mhz are noticable or if I would see more benefit from a 1G of RAM

I would go 1Gb PC2700 If i were you. You will see a difference between 512 2100 and 1Gb 2700.

Thanks for the reply. 1GB PC2700 would be ideal, but not an option. My machine is only a P4 2.4 GHz so I am just wanting to add alittle to stretch it out a little longer. I don't wanna put too much into this old machine.

Hence my only options are either upgrade to 512MB PC2700 to replace my 512MB PC2100, or add another PC2100 strip to get 1GB PC2100. I just don't know if PC2700 is that much faster to be worth getting 512MB PC2700 over buying another 512MB PC2100 to get 1GB PC2100

Then I would go 1Gb 2100. the extra RAM will be more "noticeable" than the upgrade to 2700

Excellent idea. That would work. Then if I ever wanna get 1GB PC2700 I'm half way there, but in the meantime I have my 1GB.

I guess after getting the PC2700 I could always run with the PC2700 strip for awhile to see if there is a difference, but until then I'm still wondering if I person will see a speed difference between PC2100 and PC2700 or if it's all just to say I have the fastest I can get.

Your 2700 will actually clock down to 2100 when ran with that other 512 stick of 2100.

When running 512 the difference between the 2100 and the 2700 wouldn't really be noticeable.
